The Evaluation of Penghu Natural Treatment System, 2008.

Absrtact
The evaluation of Penghu Natural Treatment Sysetem (NTS) took place between 2008-07-11 and 2009-03-31. Test results were only received during mid-April as specific analysis on Penghu Prison Reclaimation System and heavy rain fall samplings were restricted to mid-March only. This may have caused minor delay in overall project reports. A summary of various assessments is as follows: 1.Water samples from the following four Non-Point Sources NTS facilities have been analysed: TongXin Lake, Honglup, North-east corner of the reservoir and HuoShasoPing. The following table contains the result of its average outcome: Table 1: The Average Outcome of Non-Point Sources Facilities 2008/8~2009/3 SS BOD5 COD TN TP mg/l mg/l mg/l mg/l mg/l TongXin Lake 7.1% 10.3% 37.4% 42.4% 43.2% Honglup 40.0% 23.4% 51.6% 68.2% 89.1% North-East Corner of Reservoir 34.5% 10.6% 44.5% 58.4% 77.1% HuoShasoPing 51.18% 37.44% 41.07% 35.69% 33.39% 2.Samples of sediments and Melia azedarach collected from Honglup Non-Point Sources NTS facilities and north-east corner of its reservoir have been examined twice. Result of the analysis indicates that both sediments and Melia azedarach are within the standards. 3.Four ecological analyses are conducted with a specific focus on Honglup Non-Point Sources NTS facility, as well as the north-east corner of the reservoir. The analysis indicates that, numbers and orders of species decrease resulting from: low temperature, high wind speed, decreases in winter rain falls, lowering of water levels, lastly, decrementation of the sediments flow. 4.As a result of smooth-running operation and large volumes reclaimed, the cost of facility reclaimation for Penghu Prison is estimated to be NT$ 12.34 per m3, and NT$ 88.1 per m3 for National Penghu University due to its lower reclaimation rate.
